For The Love Of (work in progress)

Frames and the act of framing have been a fascination of mine since before architecture school because they are supposed to highlight the protagonist but in its intended purpose of doing that they become the protagonist themselves. The reversing of roles in a relationship is a sublime and unpredictable process which I want to explore.

This series of paintings expands on the understanding of framing and its relationship to objects, specifically neo-objects that  straddle the line between abstract and figurative. I wanted to paint objects and relationships that make me and the viewer question how our perceptions are formed by innate and external sources, like cultural background, personal histories or the mass media. I also wanted to break out of the canvas into other surfaces to further push the idea of objects being represented in more than one way in my paintings to push the imagination and make a more complex relationship worth thinking about beyond 2 dimensions.
